Referencing a Resource on a Drawing Using a Markup
In Buildend, you can link or create project resources—such as RFIs, tasks, or change orders—directly from a markup placed on a drawing. This helps connect field information to relevant documentation and improves traceability. Follow the steps below:
Step 1: Add and Select a Markup
- Open the Drawing you want to reference.
- Add a markup (e.g., rectangle, revision bubble) to the drawing.
- Select the markup to open the References toolbar on the right-hand side.
Step 2: Choose a Reference Option
You’ll see two options:
- Create Ref. – Use this to create a new resource (e.g., an RFI or task) and link it to the markup.
- Link Ref. – Use this to link an existing resource (e.g., RFI, change order, instruction) that already exists in the project.
To Create a New Resource:
- Click Create Ref., then choose the resource type (e.g., RFI).
- Fill in the required fields for the resource.
- Click Submit. This will create the new resource and automatically link it to the selected markup.
To Link an Existing Resource:
- Click Link Ref.
- Select the Resource Type.
- Search for the resource by name or number.
- Select the resource and click Save Changes.
Step 3: Viewing Linked References
- Once linked, selecting the markup will display the associated resource in the References toolbar.
- You can click on the reference to open and view the linked item directly from the drawing.
This feature ensures that markups on drawings are contextually connected to the project documentation they relate to.
